Saida Gul Maina

Singer, music educator, and mentor from Afghanistan, Saida Gul Maina has played an important role in supporting and developing the next generation of Afghan musical talent. Alongside his own artistic career, he has taught and mentored numerous young female and male singers, helping them develop their voices and pursue their musical careers. He was also a judge on the well-known Afghan singing television program, where he contributed his experience and musical knowledge to the evaluation and development of emerging Afghan singers. Through his artistic practice, teaching, and mentorship, Saida Gul Maina has contributed to Afghanistan’s contemporary music scene and to the development of young musical talent.

Case background and support provided

Initiative pour la Liberté Artistique (ILA) supported Afghan singer and music educator Saida Gul Maina through his relocation from Afghanistan to Germany under the Bundesaufnahmeprogramm (Federal Admission Programme).

ILA provided continuous support throughout the relocation process, including consultation and coordination in Afghanistan and Pakistan, assistance with his journey from Afghanistan to Pakistan, and support during the visa and relocation process. ILA also provided significant financial support for obtaining his passport, which was an essential part of the relocation process.

Saida Gul Maina relocated together with his family of eight — his wife and six children. After receiving his visa in Pakistan, ILA continued to support him and his family with their journey to Germany. Following their arrival, ILA provided ongoing administrative support, consultation, and guidance, assisting Saida Gul and his family with the various procedures involved in establishing themselves in Germany and enabling him to continue his artistic and professional work.

The case involved sustained support across Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Germany, accompanying Saida Gul and his family through the different stages of their relocation and transition to Germany.
