Our Work

Cultural Performances

Through live and public-facing cultural programs, ILA creates spaces where artists, cultural professionals and the wider public can engage with the artistic expressions of exile while reflecting on the broader relationship between cultural heritage, artistic freedom, and human rights.

Safe, public platforms for at-risk artists and cultural workers.

ILA is building a cultural ecosystem where censored, exiled, or at-risk artists can thrive and where audiences can experience the depth, beauty, and urgency of their work.

Our programming cuts across disciplines – film, music, visual art, conversations, cultural diplomacy, emerging formats – and offers audiences in Switzerland a unique opportunity to encounter major contemporary artists while contributing to the preservation of endangered cultural heritage.

Under this program, ILA:

  • Secures the legal entry of at-risk and activist artists for the specific purpose of enabling them to exhibit, perform, screen or otherwise display their work in a free and safe environment
  • Curates and produces arts festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and other events so artists can share their work. These ILA events are produced in partnership with arts and culture institutions and presenting organizations
  • Amplifies artists’ work as they advocate for the social causes to which they have dedicated themselves in their home countries.

Support ILA’s Work

As censorship rises and artists are targeted for speaking truth to power, protecting creative voices has never been more urgent. Since 2024, ILA has supported over 100 artists at risk. Your contribution ensures artists can keep creating, sharing, and inspiring change—protecting both their voices and the right to artistic freedom worldwide.
